Excited about reading!
I was very excited to find out about the Magic School Bus chapter books. I teach 2nd and 3rd grades and my students love this book! My 3rd graders are reading chapter books. This new series allows them to keep reading about Ms. Frizzle and her class. They are learning more Science facts and working on their reading skills. As a teacher I couldn't ask for more!

The Ultimate VB .NET and ASP.NET Code Book
Published in Paperback by APress (02 July, 2003)
Author: Karl Moore
Average review score:

Fantastic follow-up!!
I've been a fan of Moore since his first book, and this is a fantastic follow-up. This book is a real bible for anyone working with VB .NET and ASP.NET.

It starts at the beginning, with a warm introduction to anyone new to the world of .NET. Then it gets down to its no-nonsense method of delivering "secrets". Each chapter is split into two sections... the "Essentials" and the "Secrets".

The Essentials briefly clues you up and provides short bullet points to refresh your memory and straighten out any difficult points. Then the Secrets section gets into the real juice, explaining all those real "nuggets" of information that you only find out about once in a blue moon... like how to create programs that automatically update themselves, or where you can download a program to auto-write your code for you, or which parts of the .NET Framework contain bugs and how to work around them.

This is SUCH a refreshing change from the usual trashy Wrox publications, which simply seem intent on explaining the theory, or telling you how to install the thing, or how to create simple programs. This provides absolute real-world code to use instantly.

It covers everything from Windows development, Web development, Web services, C# - and everything else a developer needs.

Plus, make sure you download the source to go with this book. I did and it's got a few extra code chunks.

The Unofficial Guide to Bed & Breakfasts in California
Published in Paperback by John Wiley & Sons (April, 2000)
Authors: Mary Anne Moore and Maurice Read
Average review score:

At last ! A comprehensive guide to B & Bs in California
This guidebook was an eye opener for someone whose previous impression of B&Bs was that they were usually in a small, refurbished Victorian home operated by a friendly couple. Quaint, forced conviviality, no real privacy, and certainly not for me.

Well, that's all changed. The authors' entertaining and informative style made me feel like some particularly knowledgeable (and trusted) old friends were sharing their candid comments about B&Bs all over California. They've covered a full range of accommodations, styles, and prices. It's obvious that the authors are well travelled and have given a great deal of thought to each listing. Since I'm not necessarily looking for the cheapest places to stay and yet want my money's worth, I particularly like the Room Quality and Value ratings.

In addition to providing all the information I needed to plan my next trip, this was a good "read". The colorful descriptions made me want to visit some of the areas just to visit that B&B! This book is a must for anyone looking for unique and interesting places to stay while travelling through California.

Up from the Roots: Growing a Vocabulary

Authors: Bob Moore, Maxine Moore, and Bon Moore
Average review score:

Up From the Roots Helps Everyone!
Bob Moore makes a great showing by helping me and anyone who tries it to be able to learn vocab by learning the bases of the language. Hey if you know what the base "sub," any word that starts with has something to do with down, or under. This book is great for all SAT takers. I highly recommend it.

Vampire in Verse: An Anthology
Published in Paperback by Dracula Press (November, 1985)
Author: Steven Moore
Average review score:

Excellent collection for vampire fans and scholars
This anthology is an excellent resource for those with a "serious" interest in vampire literature as well as those who just enjoy spooky poetry. The selection is very thorough, ranging from the early 1800s through the 1970s and including classics from Byron, Keats, and Kipling as well as obscure poems that might otherwise be impossible to find. Thorough endnotes give useful information about the poets and the context in which they wrote. This definitely deserves a place on the shelf of any vampire fan.
